What does the flag represent?
Sweden's flag was adopted on June 22, 1906, but its design is hundreds
of years old (it probably dates from 1521). The Swedish flag is
blue with a golden-yellow Scandinavian cross. The colors are derived
from the Swedish national arms, and the design is from the Danish
flag.
Flag Day in Sweden is celebrated each year on June 6. On this date
in 1523, King Gustav I (Vasa) began his reign (and Sweden was no longer
under the control of Denmark), and in 1809, Sweden's new constitution
was adopted.
